Volkswagen CAMPER VAN RENTAL - DEPARTURE FROM ÎLE D'OLÉRON

Since 2015, I have been offering several Volkswagen camper vans for rent from Île d'Oléron. These vintage vans come fully equipped with all the original camping gear from Westfalia, designed for self-sufficient living for 4 to 5 people.

MY EXPERIENCE FOR A TOP VACATION

Take advantage of the reliability of a professional rental service with 20 years of experience and a passionate owner of a Combi. I have been camping on Île d'Oléron in a Combi for over 20 years and share my tips and great spots for a successful vacation on the island and its surroundings. You'll find cool places to park and sleep in nature and by the water without the need to go to a campsite every day.

AUTHENTIC COMBIS WITH OPTIMIZED LAYOUT

These authentic Westys are maximized for space, and their layout has inspired many modern vans. The VW T3 and T25 are even more spacious than T4, T5, T6, and other modern vans (up to 45 cm more space) thanks to the rear engine specific to VW Combis. You'll find all the necessary equipment for self-sufficient vacationing: fridge, gas stove, sink, shower, shower cabin, 5 beds, etc.

DARING WINTER IN A COMBI - YEAR-ROUND COMFORT

Dare to experience winter: several Combis are equipped with heating, hot water, and even a projector to watch a movie in the evening.

EASY COMBI HANDLING

The T25 or T3 are the easiest Combis to handle. Rentals are possible for young drivers from 18 years old.

For more space, or if you are 4 or 5 people, opt for a VW T25 Combi over the T2 (10 years of driving experience required for T2 Bay Window).

COMBI DEPARTURE AND DELIVERY

• Departure from a large beach village on Île d'Oléron (accessible by car via the free bridge, 24/7).

• La Rochelle: Free delivery to Boyarville (20 minutes by boat shuttle from La Rochelle).

• By train and bus to Château d'Oléron.

• Delivery to nearby train stations and airports, or anywhere in France.

DISCOVER ÎLE D'OLÉRON - AN AUTHENTIC ISLAND

Île d'Oléron is a gem of the Atlantic coast, larger and wilder than its neighbor Île de Ré, benefiting from a microclimate with the most consistent sunshine on the Atlantic coast. You’ll find plenty of activities, heritage, a specific fauna and flora, the oyster route and its marshes, large 'Australian-style' beaches, surf spots (with my advice on winds and tides), many concerts, and a vibrant nightlife.

Oléron is the largest island in France, with over 50 campsites and plenty of other places on and off the island to enjoy your vacation.

CHOOSING YOUR COMBI

All the Combis are quite similar, with a pop-up roof and original camping layouts. The main differences are in colors and engines.

For more space, or if you are 4 or 5, I recommend a VW T25 Combi over the T2 (10 years of driving experience required for T2 Bay Window).

CHOOSE YOUR MOTOR

• The famous flat 4 Aircooled 2L engine, the same type as in Porsche 914s, well-loved by enthusiasts, with a fun 'small Harley' sound depending on the model.

• Diesel or turbo-diesel engine, very economical: 8L/100 km, less than modern vans.

Cruising speed of 80/100 km/h – take your time and forget about the highway.

COMBI EQUIPMENT

Complete set of cooking utensils and dishes. 5 beds:

• Double bed convertible at the rear

• Double bed under the pop-up roof

• Hammock bed for children at the front (maximum 12 years old)

• Bedding upon request

• Sink / Fridge / Gas stove

• Shower cabin under the trunk

• Swiveling seats

• Solar panels, USB, etc.

• Heating and hot water on certain models

ÎLE AUX COMBIS: A GEM OF THE ATLANTIC ISLAND

Île d'Oléron enjoys a microclimate with one of the best sunshine levels in France. The island is ideal for a Combi adventure. You’ll find great places to park and sleep in nature and by the water without the need to go to a campsite every day. Plus, thanks to the partner network, you can be welcomed for free 24 hours at vineyards, artisans, or farm campgrounds (+10,000 addresses in France). For more setup and establishing your camp, you have access to a large shaded and free private land.

RATES & CONDITIONS

• Kilometric package included: 60 km/day (plenty to explore the island and its surroundings).

• Additional kilometers on request:

  • Off-season (September to June): 0.60€/km

  • High season (July-August): limited km outside the package at 0.90€/km

Most people stay to enjoy the island of Oléron and my advice on spots and activities, but you can also choose to leave the island and the region if desired.
